We now have another reason to worship Sir Richard Branson. The goal of this partnership is to ” bring together two world leaders in adventure, innovation and exploration,” and to inspire young people to start careers in engineering, science and technology.
– Ok so, this means I can fly the new Discovery to work right? –
Probably not anytime soon. But the new Discovery Vision Concept that was debuted aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid and alongside the Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo must have been a memorable experience.
What is cool about the new Vision Concept is that it’s driven by augmented reality, which does not mean the same as “Driving under the influence.”
According to Land Rover, “The vehicle uses augmented reality technology to display a ‘see-through’ view of the terrain ahead, making the front of the car ‘virtually’ invisible from inside the cabin. Gesture Control allows you to open the doors, operate the indicators or turn on the headlamps simply by moving your hand, while Laser Referencing projects visible markings, symbols and imagery onto the ground to aid low speed or tricky maneuvers.”
That’s pretty incredible and one step closer to being able to throw your ride into auto-pilot to catch some needed zzz’s on the commute to work.
